I saw the beauty. We passed by fountains, and lush greenery even in the middle of the highway.
I saw the entertainment. We passed by amusement parks, water parks, outlet malls and museums.
I saw the poverty. We passed by what the driver referred to as a “bad area in the projects”. The buildings were boarded up in most places, looking more like abandoned buildings than projects. All of the stores has metal bars trough their windows, and the “resource” centres in the community looked too run down to be functioning properly. The people had a look of sadness that you don’t see in the tourist resorts and attractions. I thought to myself, the amount of money it costs for ten seconds of advertising the new Harry Potter ride on the main highway electronic billboard could change some of these people’s lives. As we drove down the highway I saw the advertisement change, and the Harry Potter ride came back on two times on different billboards before we turned off.
